MIRECO carries out such duties as wastewater purification, forestry reclamation, prevention of ground subsidence, removal of waste facilities with the purpose of preventing damage stemming from mine development and restoring the damaged environment.

Harmful minewater containing such heavy metals as iron, aluminum, arsenic, and cadmium is being discharged from abandoned pits and waste rock pile and tailing dumping sites following the closure of mines. This results in the poisoning of organisms and the contaminating of underground water and neighboring agricultural lands by heavy metals.

Preventing waste stones from simply being washed away or lost cannot fully restore the forested areas destroyed by the development of mines. Optimal reclamation projects need to be designed in consideration of a comprehensive analysis of waste stone and geological characteristics as well as properly disposing of the waste stone.

MIRECO is striving to adopt environmentally-friendly methods corresponding to the characteristics of each mining area to improve and restore the contaminated soil, while implementing reforestation projects suitable for the surrounding landscapes.

The Abandoned mine areas are susceptible to ground subsidence due to underground digging, possibly causing human casualties and property damages.

We plan to conduct safety checks into railways, roads and residential areas that might be vulnerable to damage on a yearly basis and implement projects for fortifying ground foundation as precautionary measures. MRC is doing the utmost to take preventive measures against possible large-sized accidents.

The Abandoned mine areas are susceptible to ground subsidence due to underground digging, possibly causing human casualties and property damages.

Miners' houses, offices and mining facilities that remain abandoned after mine closures might be exploited as hideouts for delinquent youth or hinder redevelopment of the affected area.

Our corporation plans to tear down abandoned houses and vacant ones in the mining areas on a step-by-step basis after establishing a comprehensive plan for the removal of such waste facilities so that the affected area does not degenerate into slums and they can be transformed into a clean, pleasant living place.
