Our corporation has been building up a mine geological information system (GIS) network designed to provide for the comprehensive management of such tasks as the prevention of safety-related accidents and environmental pollution in the mining areas. Currently, a GIS network has been established with an investment of 1.5 billion won in 2004 and 2005 to cover 52 closed mines in the Samcheok and Taebaek mining areas.
This year, MIRECO is working on a project to build up a GIS network for 51 closed mines in the Jeongseon area in Gangwon Province at a cost of 2.3 billion won. Our corporation plans to channel a total of 10.6 billion won between 2007 and 2010 to build up a GIS network covering 233 closed mines as part of its efforts to operate a portal system for the management of mine hazard and an integrated information system for facilities related to mining-related damage
