Donggang Resort, Inc. was established in a joint venture by MIRECO, Yeongwol County and Kangwon Land to boost substitute industries in the abandoned mine area in Samok-ni, Yeongwol-up. The project calls for the construction of an environmentally-friendly resort by 2009.

The projected resort comprises a botanical garden, a spa/herb treatment facility, lodging, and experience areas. The botanical garden area will accommodate such theme gardens as a cultivation garden, an ecological forest area, herbal and edible plant gardens. The planned spa/herb district will be furnished with a hot spa, leisure-pool facilities and an herb park, while the experience area will be equipped with snow recreation grounds and cable cars.
